Agence Search réalise un ensemble immobilier de 15.000 m² à Quatre-Bornes sur l'Île Maurice. We were approached by the client to design a high rise apartment building in the city of Quatre Bornes, on the island of Mauritius.  Unlike the image that most of us have of Mauritius, Quatre Bornes is not a beach-front community.  Located inland, it has a business center and is the home of many locals who are benefiting from the new global economy and many young people who are just entering the middle-class.  The client identified the opportunity that in this low-lying city the municipal planners have started to accept high-rise construction.  The client made the practical choice for innovative architecture according to the logic that it will help them get the most square-meters out of their property. The building in the form of an I.Q. (or Q.I. in French) uses the small apartment modules to build an iconic image.  Like the Yerevan Project we were given a summary program with the flexibility to develop it in conjunction with the development of the architectural form.  Also like Yerevan, we located the dramatic public spaces at an unexpected intermediate level.  The swimming pool is high enough to have an amazing view of the surrounding mountains, but it is also framed by the “Q.”
